Coral Gables, Fla. – No. 8 Texas Men's Tennis posted four wins on day one of the Miami Spring Invite on Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The Longhorns secured two singles and two doubles victories against players from South Carolina and Georgia.
The doubles pair of senior Chih Chi Huang and junior Eshan Talluri highlighted the day by logging a ranked win over the No. 55 duo of Blake Croyder and Britton Johnston of Georgia, 8-2. Just prior to that, juniors Eliot Spizzirri and Evin McDonald had notched an 8-0 sweep of Teodor Giusca and Philip Henning, also of UGA. The lone doubles defeat came in an 8-3 decision by No. 19 Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn of Georgia over junior Siem Woldeab and sophomore Pierre-Yves Bailly.
Talluri swept his matches on the day by registering a 7-6 (4), 6-4 singles victory over Lucas da Silva of South Carolina, while No. 3 Spizzirri took a pair of tiebreakers over James Story of the Gamecocks, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). South Carolina was able to register wins in the remaining four singles contests, including Connor Thomson over Woldeab, 7-5, 6-5, ret., Raphael Lambling over Bailly, 7-6 (6), 7-5, #56 Casey Hoole over #104 McDonald in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, and Jake Beasley over senior Nevin Arimilli, 6-3, 6-2.
On Saturday, the Longhorns are slated to play doubles against players from South Carolina at approximately 11:30 ET/10:30 CT before facing players from Miami in singles after doubles is completed.
