San Diego – Texas Men's Tennis junior Eliot Spizzirri finished as the men's singles runner-up at ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego on Sunday. Spizzirri, who became the first Longhorn finalist at the tournament since Yuya Ito won it in 2019, fell to Nishesh Basavareddy of Stanford, 6-1, 6-4.

The match was a contest between the fourth-seeded No. 35 Spizzirri and third-seeded

There were six deuce point games in the match with Basavareddy able to secure all of them, including the second game of the first set to push out to a 2-0 lead after picking up a break in the opening game. Spizzirri cut it to 2-1 on serve, but Basavareddy closed on a 4-0 run, including another deuce point in the final game.

The first game of the second set also went to deuce on Basavareddy's serve, and the set as a whole stayed on serve up to his 4-3 lead, including another at 3-2. Basavareddy then claimed the first break of the set at deuce for 5-3, but Spizzirri responded with a break of his own to get within 5-4.
