Coral Gables, Fla. – No. 8 Texas Men's Tennis topped three top-25 singles opponents from Georgia on the final day of the Miami Spring Invite on Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The Longhorns also won two doubles contests against players from Miami to close the tournament.
Sophomore Pierre-Yves Bailly posted the highest-ranked win of the group in singles, topping No. 1 Ethan Quinn, 6-3, 6-4. Bailly did not play in the fall due to injury, resulting in him currently being unraked. Junior No. 3 Eliot Spizzirri opened the day by completing a sweep of his three singles matches at the event with a win over No. 10 Philip Henning, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Eshan Talluri then registered his first ranked singles win as a Longhorn by downing No. 21 Blake Croyder, 6-1, 6-4. In the other two singles contests, senior Nevin Arimilli fell to No. 106 Trent Bryde, 6-4, 6-4, and senior Chih Chi Huang dropped his match to No. 70 Teodor Giusca, 6-2, 6-3.
Later in doubles, Talluri and Huang finished a sweep of their three doubles matches in the tournament with an 8-4 win over Martin Vergara and Franco Aubone of the Hurricanes. Spizzirri combined with Arimilli for an 8-3 victory against Martin Katz and Nacho Serra Sanchez, and Bailly partnered with junior Siem Woldeab, who returned from injury, but the duo fell to Antonio Prat and Dan Martin, 8-1.
With the perfect 3-0 marks, Spizzirri was named the singles champion of the tournament, while Huang and Talluri earned the doubles nod.
The Longhorns will head back to the state of Florida next week to face the No. 13 Florida Gators in Gainesville in the first dual match of the season at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT on Sunday, Jan. 15.
