Wagner named Head Men’s Tennis Coach at Clemson

Brandon Wagner spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the Longhorns.

Austin – Texas Men's Tennis Associate Head Coach Brandon Wagner has been named Head Men's Tennis Coach at Clemson, it was announced by Clemson on Wednesday.

"While there is no doubt we will miss Brandon greatly in Austin, we are all thrilled for him to have the opportunity to be the next head men's tennis coach at Clemson," Texas head coach Bruce Berque said. "Clemson is getting an amazing coach and an even better person. We are all thankful for the tremendous impact he had on our program over the last four years and wish him the best as he embarks on this exciting next chapter of his career."

Wagner, who just completed his fourth season at Texas under Berque, helped guide the Longhorns to two Final Four appearances in the three years the NCAA tournament has been held in that span, three final top-four rankings by the ITA, two Big 12 regular season championships, and the program's first-ever appearance in the final of the ITA National Indoor Championships this year, which was followed by its first-ever No. 1 seeding in the NCAA tournament. In all, the Longhorns posted an 81-24 overall record in that span, including a 12-3 mark in Big 12 play.

Named the ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year on Tuesday, this season Wagner assisted in junior Eliot Spizzirri reaching the No. 1 singles ranking, which he maintained throughout the dual match season, and Spizzirri and Cleeve Harper finishing as runners-up in this season's NCAA Doubles Championships, along with Harper and Richard Ciamarra winning the title the year before.

During his coaching career, Wagner has served as an ATP/WTA Tour coach, an associate head coach at the University of South Florida and a volunteer assistant at the University of Georgia. As a player, he earned All-American honors at Georgia in 2002 and was a member of the Bulldogs' 2001 National Championship team.
