Coral Gables, Fla. – No. 8 Texas Men's Tennis earned three wins on day two of the Miami Spring Invite on Saturday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The Longhorns who two singles matches and one doubles contest against players from South Carolina and Miami.
The doubles pair of senior Chih Chi Huang and junior Eshan Talluri registered their second win in two matches of the tournament with an 8-4 victory over Lucas da Silva and Connor Thomson of South Carolina. The Gamecocks took the other two doubles contests with an 8-2 win by Raphael Lambling and Casey Hoole over sophomore Pierre-Yves Bailly and senior Nevin Arimilli, who replaced junior Siem Woldeab after he suffered an injury on Friday. James Story and Jake Beasley then downed juniors Eliot Spizzirri and Evin McDonald, 8-3, to round out doubles play.
In singles, No. 3 Spizzirri claimed his second win in as many matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over No. 73 Dan Martin of Miami. Just prior to that, Bailly picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Franco Aubone of the Hurricanes. Arimilli took his match the distance, even reaching a pair of match points, but came up short in a third-set tiebreaker to Antonio Prat, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Tiebreakers also came up in the remaining two matches against Miami, as No. 104 McDonald fell to Martin Katz, 7-6 (3), 6-4, while Talluri dropped his contest to Leonard Bierbaum, 6-2, 7-6 (4)
On Sunday, the Longhorns are slated to play singles against players from Georgia at approximately 8 a.m. ET/7 a.m. CT before facing players from Miami in doubles after singles is completed.
