Huber, Pratt and Vile rally Badgers past the Huskers

Wisconsin trio score singles wins to lift Badgers to 4-3 win over Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team took to the road and won its second Big Ten match of the season by way of three come-from-behind singles wins Saturday at Nebraska.

The Badgers (8-8, 2-1 Big Ten) beat the Huskers (5-13, 1-2) by a score of 4-3, with Sebastian Vile scoring the deciding victory at No. 4 singles.

Wisconsin started out strong in doubles play. For the second straight match, the Badger duo of Mihailo Popovic and Lenard Soha grabbed UW's first win. They took down Nebraska's Patrick Cacciatore and Calvin Mueller in a quick 6-1 defeat. Tim Dhzurinskiy and Jared Pratt then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Dario Huber and Shunya Maruyama to put the Badgers up 1-0 going into singles play.

The momentum did not continue for Wisconsin, as Nebraska came down hard after the five-minute intermission and grabbed three singles matches in a row, putting the Badgers down 3-1.

Senior Gabriel Huber started the Badgers' comeback with a three-set win over Maruyama at the No. 3 singles position. Huber took the first set 6-3 and crawled back from a 6-4 loss in the second to take the third 6-4 and give Wisconsin its second point of the match.

A close loss in the first set at No. 2 singles was not enough to deter Pratt from grabbing his fourth singles win of the season. He swept the second set 6-0 before an almost perfect third set, 6-1, over Mueller to tie up the match for the Badgers.

To close it out and secure the win, Vile clinched yet another match for the Badgers this season, his third since play began in January. After dropping the first set 6-4, he picked up the pace and dug deep to win over Roni Hiertaranta by scores of 6-2 in the second and 6-4 in the third to clinch the match for Wisconsin.
