Westerman bolsters roster for 2023-24 season

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's tennis team is raising a new class of Badgers after signing four players to the roster for the 2023-24 season.

Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton, Tomas Zlatohlavek, and Oliver Olsson will make their way to Madison next summer to contribute to the Badger program immediately.

"Urban and I are thrilled with our 2023 class," said head coach Danny Westerman. "We lose quite a bit from this year's team and we knew we needed a group of players that were ready to make an immediate impact. All four of these guys love tennis and are excited to work to become the best players they can be. We cannot wait to get on the court with them to help them achieve all their goals."

Beduhn, a Maple Grove, Minnesota native, will join the Badgers following an accomplished juniors and high school career. He was a five-star recruit, according to TennisRecruiting.net, is the No. 69 recruit in his class, and holds a Universal Tennis Rating of 11.48. At his high school, Beduhn set a school record for the best individual record and earned the runner-up spot at the Minnesota state singles tournament.

Another five star recruit hailing from Edina, Minnesota, Fullerton will start his Wisconsin career after being named co-captain of his high school team and the 2022 Minnesota State Singles Champion his junior year. With his impressive singles play, he helped his team earn runner-up accolades at the 2022 Minnesota state tournament. He holds a UTR of 11.93 and ranked No. 58 in his recruiting class.

Zlatohlavek and Olsson have a further move to make to become Badgers next season, both European natives.

Wisconsin is getting an impressive athlete in Olsson, a three-time singles German National Champion and two-time doubles German National Champion. He represented his homeland at the 18U ITF European Championships and holds an International Tennis Federation Ranking of No. 204.

Rounding out the class is Zlatohlavek, who grew up in Prague, Czech Republic, and most recently was a semifinalist in the Czech Men's National Championships and competed in eight ITF junior tournaments over the past couple of years. He holds a Universal Tennis Ranking of 12.43.
